Job Description:
Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Senior Application Developer Analyst. She/He/They serve as a subject matter expert for the systems, solutions, and related services within the Administrative and Business Service Portfolio. This position is responsible for employing technical and functional skills and experience to ensure the reliability, availability, and maintainability of enterprise applications including PeopleSoft, the University's ERP. The Senior Applications Developer Analyst will work towards the design, build/configuration, and operational maintenance of systems by creating and enhancing operational capabilities, overseeing the delivery of capability enhancements, and systems optimization.

The Senior Application Developer Analyst will play an important role as the University embarks on the identification and implementation of an exciting new ERP strategy. Success in this position will have a direct, positive impact on student experience, retention, and success.

The successful candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with a wide range of constituents ranging from campus leadership to front-line staff. The Senior Application Developer Analyst is expected to work under limited supervision as well as within a team environment. 

Programming and Development:

  • Develop unique approaches to complicated problems and create solutions that may require the integration of disparate systems running on a variety of technical platforms
  • Design, develop, test, maintain and document solutions created for the University
  • Build customizations and configurations that ensure propagation to upgraded environments
  • Review of existing system and software design and code and make recommendations for developing and integrating new requirements, and for improving system's performance and code/system's maintenance
  • Apply and comply with configuration management practices and established development standards

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Gather customer requirements and build solutions using new and/or existing technology/application systems in the process
  • Work as a team member in the development, analysis, and support of enterprise applications including PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Work closely with various technical and functional departments in implementing recommendations and/or negotiating proposed solutions

Projects and Operational Activities:

  • Actively participate in ITS projects related to Administrative and Business Services
  • Work on items within a defined queue of requests, incidents, problems, and projects for assigned service areas
  • Provide day-to-day applications operational support including performing quality assurance activities and completing all necessary documentation for tasks performed
  • Monitor enterprise applications, apply appropriate triage skills to application failures, and take appropriate action to maintain service availability
  • Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • At least three years of development experience in PeopleSoft, Banner, or any ERP environment
  • Demonstrated programming experience in application development with one or more of the following areas: PeopleSoft PeopleTools development tools (PeopleCode, Application Engine, SQR), Banner development tools, Java, JavaScript, PERL, PHP, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience with analyzing and/or eliciting, clarifying, and validating users' needs/business requirements and translating them into technical design requirements, workflows, business rules, and specifications.
  • Ability to conduct technical design walk-throughs and peer reviews.
  • Ability to independently organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Applicants must address their ability to work with a culturally diverse population in their application or interview.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Demonstrated experience in higher education with the installation, operation, and integration of academic administrative applications
  • Ability to design, develop, enhance, test, debug, & deploy user applications/solutions using PeopleSoft PeopleTools Application Designer objects; includes components, pages, records, fields, SQL, Application Engine, and Application Packages
  • Experience with analyzing and troubleshooting complex, cross-team applications and integrations
  • Fluency in more than one programming language
  • RESTful API (Application Programming Interface) development experience
  • Proven experience with popular JavaScript frameworks such as React and Angular
  • Experience working in UNIX/Linux environment

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Senior Programmer/Analyst, SL-4; $86,000-91,000
