Press Operator
Press Operator - Sun Sentinel, Deerfield Beach.
Press Operator, operate the printing presses to produce high quality products in a timely and safe manner.
Responsibilities:
•Work Skills - To operate the printing presses according to standard operating procedures to produce quality printed products. This includes, but not limited to, all press make-ready tasks, folder operation, press unit adjustments, all press control system adjustments, all press maintenance tasks, reel make-up and operations. Be able to make all necessary adjustments to ensure the highest quality throughout the run.
•Teamwork – Work closely with the other members of the press crew, maintenance personnel and team leader to resolve problems and produce high quality products in a timely manner. Must be adaptable to changing assignments and responsibilities.
•Safety and Housekeeping – Promote a safe and healthy workplace by following all established safety, housekeeping and environmental procedures and systems. •Ownership – Take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of the work performed in order to meet customer expectations.
•Personal Growth - To seek opportunities to learn more skills and tasks. Specifically, should seek opportunities to learn more about the Colorliner press and its subsystems (i.e.: Totalizer, Supervisory Processor, Semler System, etc.).
Requirements/Qualifications:
•Safety Conscious
•Must have a high school diploma or GED.
•Requires 5 years newspaper press experience
•Must be able to kneel and climb steps to assist web leads though angle bars and compensators.
•Must be able to climb ladder multiple times to make adjustments to folder nips and slitters.
•Must be able crawl into confined places and lay on back or side for extended periods of time to assist in the removal of spraybars, rollers and paper wraps in ink train area
•Must be able to kneel for extended periods of time to purge and clean ink rails.
•Must be able to lift and reach overhead to remove and install blankets, spraybars and rollers on upper units weighing up to 50 pounds.
•Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time to monitor product and make adjustments to product quality though the use of press control systems or on occasion out at the unit.
•Must be able to climb stairs multiple times to plate, make-ready and make adjustments to upper unit and folder.
•Must be able to make fine adjustments to Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black ink for registration and density using a densitometer and loop.
•Must be available to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays and to be on call for emergencies.
•Must be well organized, self-motivated, a team player, possess initiative and be able to work with minimal guidance.
•Must be able to lift equipment that will weigh up to 50 1bs, be able to walk for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, twist, work from ladders and steps, etc. in order to work on hard to reach equipment.
•Must be able to work in unfavorable conditions such as varying temperatures, dusty, dirty, greasy, etc.
•Must be physically able to push waste carts weighing 150 pounds and assist pushing rolls of newsprint weighing 2000 pounds on roll cart.
•Must have a thorough working knowledge of all phases of press operation and demonstrate the ability to successfully comply with the major responsibilities of this position.
Sensory/Physical Requirements:
Feeling/touching press equipment. Hearing (conversation and other sounds, press defects in press equipment): Seeing (far, near, depth, color) seeing color match, register. Fine finger movements, grabbing, gripping, reaching, in testing new equipment. Lifting up to 50 lbs press parts. Pushing/Pulling 55 gal drums. Twisting, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders and stairs. Work around press equipment and test new chemistry and products.
