Medical Physicist

About the Position:

Upstate Cancer Center (UCC) of the SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a motivated Medical Physicist to join our exciting and growing ACR accredited Radiation Oncology Department. This position is clinically focused with responsibilities including clinical physics services for external beam radiation therapy that includes IMRT, VMAT, TBI, IGRT, RGSC, SBRT, as well as SRS with Gamma Knife, and brachytherapy programs to assure the safe, effective, and accurate delivery of radiation therapy. The individual is also expected to be involved in some educational services in support of the institutional mission. A suitable candidate may be considered for a faculty appointment with the Upstate Medical University School of Medicine.

About the Department:

A successful candidate will join our Radiation Oncology team of 10 physicians, 6 physicists, 6 medical residents, and 6 dosimetrists providing services to 4 facilities, including the main campus in downtown Syracuse. We treat approximately 130 patients per day. Major treatment equipment includes five Linacs (4 TrueBeams), two 4DCT-Simulators, one Xoft IORT, one HDR Brachytherapy Unit (Varian Bravos), LDR Brachytherapy program (prostate seed implantation and GammaTile), one Gamma Knife, and in the process of acquiring an MR-simulator and a machine with real-time adaptive treatment capability. UCC is an active member of the RTOG/NRG and participates in various cooperative groups for clinical trials. We are engaged in research involving multiple areas such as clinical study, active motion management, development of robotic devices as well as research on developing AI-based models for predicting radiation treatment outcomes. We are in the process of staring a Medical Physics Residency Program. SUNY Upstate offers competitive salary and generous benefits.

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Medical Physics, Physics, Engineering, or related basic science.
  • New York State license (or eligible) in Therapeutic Radiological Medical Physics
  • ABR certified, or at least eligible for ABR certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics.
  • Experience with Varian’s system is preferred.
