Franjo Construction Corporation, 335 East 7th Avenue, Homestead, PA 15120 (412-462-4371) seeks 8 workers for temporary, full-time employment from April 1, 2019 to October 31, 2019 for the position of Mason / Brick / Block Layer in the State of Pennsylvania in the areas of Allegheny County, Westmoreland County, and Washington County.
Mason / Brick / Block Layers will:
- Install CMU and brick units as designated by the contract documents.
- Safely erect, dismantle, and maintain scaffolding systems.
- Install all CMU units in accordance with best building practices to ensure a complete water-tight masonry assembly that is compliant with the contract documents, including but not limited to 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 CMU as well as all brick types including proper layout, installation and wash-down procedures.
- Maintain responsibility of daily production quantities such as 8 CMU (180-200 units per day), 10 CMU (160-180 units per day), 12'' CMU (140-160 units per day) and brick (400 units per day).
- Responsible for initial layout, plumb and level construction and installation of all CMU related units.
- Mix mortars and grouts assist in stocking building materials.
- Operate associated equipment to perform daily construction activities and final wash-down of completed installations including floors, sidewalks, roadways, steps, and curbs.
- Operate equipment as needed for daily construction activities such as mixers, forklifts, telehandlers etc.
- Operate hand tools, saws and equipment for cutting CMU units.
- Maintain required production units as outlined by the project schedule.
- Perform general daily maintenance of all equipment such as fueling and lubrication.
- Perform general daily safety inspections to all equipment prior to use.
- Utilize knowledge of general building structures and foundations, knowledge of elevations, grades and concrete foundation structures and installation procedures, and knowledge of masonry drainage systems and concrete footing designs.
- Perform general carpentry items to assist with temporary enclosures for in climate weather work.
- Assist in loading and unloading building material.
- Provide input on jobsite logistics, organization, layout, equipment and manpower utilization.
- Establish and enforce a comprehensive project safety and security program as defined in the company safety program in accordance with all applicable safety codes and regulations.

- Meet with safety coordinator and complete mandatory Franjo construction safety training prior to start of employment.
- Position requires 3 years of experience as a mason / brick / block layer on commercial projects.
- Must have industry related knowledge of commonly used mason brick block layer tools and methods.
- Must utilize knowledge of general building structures and foundations; knowledge of elevations, grades and concrete foundation structures and installation procedures; and knowledge of CMU units installation in accordance with best building practices to ensure a complete water-tight masonry assembly.
- Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test screening.
- These tests will be administered to all applicants, US and foreign national workers, alike.
- Any employee who does not pass these tests will be terminated or placed on probation.
- Random drug tests also administered throughout employment term.
- Transportation provided to and from worksites, as needed.
- Any applicant who fails either test will be provided return transportation home at the expense of the employer pursuant to the terms and conditions of the Department of Labor regulations.
- Transportation and subsistence (including meals, & to the extent necessary, lodging) to and from the worksites from the place of recruitment will be provided, or its cost to workers reimbursed, if the worker completes half of the employment period.
- We will provide return transportation and subsistence to the place from which the worker originally departed to work for the employer if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed early, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer.
- Transportation and subsistence will be reimbursed through a collection of receipts from each worker and subsequent payment via check for all costs incurred.
- The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved.
- Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $12.26/day during travel to a maximum of $51/day with receipts.
- Workers will be paid no less than $20.04/hour.
- Overtime will be paid to employees for work over 40 hours, as applicable at $30.06 per hour.
- Employer will provide site specific orientation.
- Employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due.
- Employee will be paid weekly.
Board/lodging: Employer will make all deductions from the worker's paycheck as required by law. Employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job. Transportation will be provided to and from worksite, as needed.
