The Lake Oswego School District is seeking a Digital Media Specialist. This position would specifically be working with the programs and applications listed below. Therefore we are seeking applicants with experience in some or all of the following:
Blackboard website content management system and Blackboard Ally K-12 communications system or similar website platform, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, IShowYou Studio2, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, iMovie, Blackboard content management system, G Suite (google docs, sheets, classroom, forms, and slides), S’mores, and Peachjar.

Job Summary
Designs and manages the District’s website and social media platforms for both internal and external audiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.
- Develops, manages, supports and upgrades the website for district-wide use
- Creates visually appealing websites that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation, based on research for effective marketing, engagement, and communication
- Ensures that all web pages comply with appropriate legal and local policies, guidelines, and standards
- Uses up-to-date and appropriate software to create compelling visual content for the web and social media
- Responsible for daily content updates of district website
- Integrates charts, data, photographs, video, documents, flow charts, graphics, into web design and social media, and other communications
- Photographs and/or videos events and individuals for weekly/daily content updates
- Trains and assists school and department staff on website design and maintenance
- Supports school-based website editors to learn and use the District website platform
- Works directly and productively with district staff to determine needs, strategies, and goals for designing consistent school and department websites; acts as coach to school staff members
- Communicates with staff members or groups as needed in regards to the functionality of any and all parts of the websites; makes changes and supports staff as needed
- Manages district calendar and coordinates with individual school calendars
- Continually remediates district documents for 508 compliance
- Uses website platform to identify and remediate documents to meet 508 compliance
- Website training, support, and oversight for 508 compliance (website accessibility)
- Develops teaching tools for staff regarding 508 compliance (website accessibility)
- Manages the social media strategy for the district; revises district social media plan as necessary based on best practices and industry standards
- Facilitates, supports, and serves school and department social media participants
- Responsible for continuous monitoring and message development; alert senior staff if issues arise and messaging becomes a potential crisis
- Provides usage data for district websites and social media initiatives
- Develops, designs, and produces printed and digital publications as directed
- Manages use of district branding of materials and presenting the district to stakeholders. Ensures consistent quality management
- Manages surveys and other research tools, using results to improve district relationships, operations, and education delivery for student success
- Knows and follows School Board social media policies
- Facilitates, supports, and serves school and department social media participants
- Creates layout for ads for newspapers and magazines
- Creates layout for postcards, flyers, posters, and brochures
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures.
- Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance.
- Designs, writes, edits, and oversees production and distribution of department, school, program, and district informational publications, including printed and electronic news releases, brochures, and reports.
- Works with representatives of the news media and other organizations to provide print and broadcast information on district activities, policies, and procedures. Arranges news conferences and other district-wide public events. As directed, acts as spokesperson for the district.
- Responds to public, news media, agency, and staff requests for information about operations and activities of the district.
- Assists schools, programs, and departments in developing and implementing communication plans, programs, and activities.
- Conducts periodic public opinion research to assess internal and external opinions, public information needs, and effectiveness of district practices.
- Supervises the development and coordination of public relations activities for capital bond and/or local option elections and prepares work plans and strategies for distribution.
- Monitors legislative activities that relate to the district and aligns necessary communications with district legislative activities.
- Writes, edits and delivers speeches on matters affecting public education and the district.
- Creates and updates information on district website.
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Non-essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of these tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.
- Operates and troubleshoots various office equipment including telephones and photocopy machines.
- Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Communicates information about district, school and/or departmental policies and procedures to students, staff, parents and patrons.
- Reports issues to the principal and the appropriate authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife.
- Provides staff development activities for staff during in-service meetings.
Other Requirements
- Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions.
- Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors, and sitting alignment.
- Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury while performing job duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
Qualifications

- Education and/or Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design or Marketing is required. Experience with managing a website platform for a private or public agency is preferred.

- Language Skills: Ability to communicate in English fluently both verbally and in writing. Has strong writing and editing skills including proficiency in spelling and grammar. Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions/ instruction manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one variable.
- Computer Skills: Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, listservs-based communications, general web-based and cloud-based applications. Ability to effectively use website development programs. Have an in-depth understanding and operational knowledge of social media platforms and how these platforms can enhance district communications.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment. Ability to work flexible hours.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid Oregon Driver’s License is required. Must have or able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district.

The work environment is a standard school office setting, and occasionally includes other locations, inside and outside of buildings, within the district and at external sites. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the location, the student population and current activities. The employee may occasionally be exposed to contagious diseases, bodily fluids and blood-borne pathogens.
