The City of Cabot, AR is hiring for a Fire Chief
Job Summary:
Plan and direct activities related to fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical response within the City.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Develops long-range plans for meeting fire suppression and prevention needs in the City, including inspections
2) Provides technical information regarding fire suppression requirements for use in consideration of annexation and development issues.
3) Studies minimum requirements established by the Insurance Services Office and recommends methods, equipment, staffing, and station placement to meet those standards; and, maintains a fluid long range structure plan with a five year annual budget plan.
4) Reviews standards set by government agencies and fire insurance organizations to determine the need for new and enhanced training programs for firefighters; and reviews
training programs developed by Fire Department trainers to ensure compliance with standards.
5) Reviews proposed changes in the City codes and ordinances related to fire prevention to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
6) Prepares budget figures to ensure compliance with budget guidelines; recommends budget for capital improvements, including new stations and major equipment purchases.

7) Responds, when possible, to the scene of all second alarm fires, fires involving fatalities, and emergencies which may require evacuation to direct activities of Fire Department
personnel.
8) Orders evacuation of areas affected by hazardous material spills and other emergencies as required.
9) Confers with other emergency response agencies to develop emergency response plans.
10) Attends or has representation at meetings and confers with employees of designated departments and agencies regarding annexation and development plans affecting Fire Department operations. This includes the monthly Public Works staff/technical review meeting and Planning Commission.
11) Develops policies and procedures for the inspection of fire scenes and inspections for fire prevention; investigates fire origin and cause and reports cases of suspected arson,
bombings and bomb threats, and other unusual emergencies to the appropriate local, state, and federal agency as required by law and regulations.
12) Reviews complaints from citizens regarding Fire Department operations.
13) Reviews reports of complaints or misconduct within the Fire Department and determines appropriate action.
14) Presents information regarding Fire Department operations to civic groups and other organizations; assigns presentations regarding specific Fire Department activities to the
Departmental personnel specializing in those activities.
15) Provides information regarding Fire Department operations and responses to specific emergencies as requested by members of the media.
16) Ability to seek out and receive grants for Fire equipment and anything that could be used by the Fire Department.
17) Maintain Fire Department Handbook which includes policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
1) A citizen of the United States.
2) Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with a Fire Department and five (5) years in a supervisory or administrative capacity within a Fire Department.
3) Valid Firefighter II certification through IFSAC or PRO-BOARD and basic emergency medical technician (EMT) licensure through the State of Arkansas.
4) Bachelor’s degree in Fire Technology, Fire Engineering, Public Administration, Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
5) No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving violence, weapons, or illegal drugs.
6) Be able to maintain a high level of professionalism, attitude, appearance, and enthusiasm within the Department.
7) The ability to successfully complete all training classes or programs assigned including the Executive Fire Officer program.
