Transit Services Assistant
Auburn University Transit Services seeks candidates for a Transit Services Assistant to help with the day-to-day oversight and operations of Auburn University’s transportation operations which provide safe and reliable transportation to students, faculty, and staff. This position ensures operations are performed in accordance with University and transit contract provisions.
About Transit Services: If it has wheels and the vehicle carries passengers it comes from this office! This is a small, collaborative team that is committed to the safe and successful movement of people at Auburn. A few of the most important responsibilities of Transit Services are:
- Tiger Transit buses to get students to and from class.
- University Express Vans to get students and faculty to places the buses don’t go
- jAUnt golf cart service for students, faculty, and staff with a disability or medical condition that makes it difficult to travel within the central campus.

Note: This is a pooled posting and will be used to collect applications for Transit Services Assistant throughout an extended period of time as vacancies occur.
Essential Functions
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
Assists transportation management with oversight of daily activities associated with all Transportation Services departments including University Van Shuttle, By Request Van Shuttle, Contractor Shuttle, jAUnt Mobility Golf Cart Service and the transit services vendor.
- Assists the transit vendor with routine daily operational activities.
- Collects and enters data related to all transportation services departments including Tiger Transit.
- Answers phones and dispatches vans for the University Shuttle Service, Contractor Shuttle and By Request Service.
- Safely operates state owned University vehicles while transporting passengers.
- Assist in supervising the jAUnt Mobility Golf Cart Service consisting of six (6) to eight (8) golf carts.
- Assists with accident investigations as needed.
- Assists with the training of new employees for both office needs and driving techniques.
- Will be required to supervise special events and charters including Game Days
- Provides customer service and information to vendor and vendor’s customers resolving customer issues and may assist as a liaison with various campus organizations concerning transportation issues.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent
Years of Experience: No experience required for entry level
Requirements for Additional Job Levels
- Consideration for Level I required a high school diploma
- Consideration for Level II requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in transportation services or customer service.
Minimum Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Effective verbal and electronic communication skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities
Minimum Technology Skills
- Save and retrieve files on the computer.
- Run and operate a variety of software programs.
- Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel)
Minimum License and Certifications
A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class C with passenger endorsement and airbrakes is required within 6 months of employment.
Desired Qualifications
A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is desired.
